Throughout 2024, all over the world, people were on the move, and communities were under stress. From South Sudan to India, Algeria to Pakistan, aidóni collected stories and sentiments that revealed the severity, depth, and scope of those challenging situations, caused or aggravated by political disputes, societal changes or climate change. Those movements are likely to become more frequent and intense and provide a distinctive mark to our transformative and decisive 21st century. What happens in the next few years and decades may define the direction humanity and planet Earth will take in the next few centuries.

In its first public review since being formed in 2023, aidóni is sharing the highlights of its efforts to reveal some of that transformation, through its aidóni Digest. From teaming up with French journalistic organisation Specto to produce a series about migration to, from, and through Tunisia to producing a guide about journalism in peace-building situations, the first aidóni Digest tells how we applied the knowledge and points of view of our diverse network of professionals to tell several stories typical of these challenging times.

This document celebrates our work whilst also detailing aidóni’s future goals – and how an operation based so far on the remarkable efforts of volunteers aims to attract funding and possible elements of a commercial operation. aidóni’s evolution has been and will continue to be centred on human stories that reveal injustices and challenges endured by the most vulnerable – such as unhelpful stereotypes applied to Arab nations, addressed by aidóni’s Academia Editor, Yousr Sharawy, and the legacy of colonisation, the topic explored by aidóni’s Strategic Director, Ingrid Smith.

Our readers are also being informed of our next step in creating a wider community of journalists and writers, through aidóni Collective, an initiative offering new contributors a way of promoting the stories they wish to produce and bringing to our audience new perspectives and realities (those interested can join the waiting list by clicking here).

We are happy and proud to share much of our internal story with our readers and external colleagues through our first aidóni Digest.
